What is UV DTF printing?
Share
UV DTF (Direct to Film) printing is a relatively recent digital printing technique that combines the advantages of traditional DTF printing with UV ink technology. Its main advantage is that it's a cold marking method, making it compatible with all materials. Another benefit is that this printing technique allows for marking cylindrical surfaces that are very difficult to mark without requiring investment in specialized equipment.
Here's how DTF UV printing works:
How DTF UV works
- Film printing : Just like with traditional DTF printing, the design is first printed in mirror image onto a special transparent film using UV inks.
- Powder application : Once the image is printed, an adhesive powder is applied to the printed side of the film. This powder helps transfer and fix the ink to the final substrate.
- UV Curing : The ink is then exposed to UV light for instant curing. Unlike traditional inks that require drying or baking, UV inks harden almost immediately when exposed to UV light, making the process faster and more efficient. Your print transfers are then ready to be applied.
- Transfer : The film is then transferred onto the desired substrate (such as textiles, metal, plastic, etc.). Under pressure, the image is permanently transferred onto the substrate.
Advantages of DTF UV marking
- Expanded marking possibilities : This technique can be used on a wide variety of materials, including difficult substrates like metal or rigid plastic, because you no longer need to heat-press your objects or textiles to adhere your print transfer. You can also mark cylindrical surfaces without investing in specialized equipment.
- Durability : UV inks are known for their durability and resistance to external elements such as water, sun, and scratches.
- Print quality : UV inks allow for very high-quality printing with vivid colors and precise details.
- Environmentally friendly : UV inks are often less harmful to the environment than traditional solvents used in other forms of printing.
